The Eyes Have It :- by Ruskin Bond
Q:- The character of the
author.
Ans:- The story "The Eyes Have
It" by Ruskin Bond is written in first person technique. Here the author
is the nameless narrator himself. His behaviour in this short story is just
like a normal passenger. He is totally concious of his blindness and tries his
best to hide it from others. He was completely blind but his eyes were only
sensitive in light and darkness though he hadn't lost his sense of perception
of beauty.
The romantic author was able to be familiar with a girl co-passenger in
the train compartment. He became nostalgic to recall the beauty of Mussorrie. The
girl called him a "gallant young man. "He was not only imaginative
but also thoughtful as well as serious.
He was a romantic fellow and longed for love. He felt an urge for the
praise of others. He loved the presence of the girl. He had gifted
inner-vision.
Through all the story, he was trying to hide his blindness from the girl, but at get end he was abruptly outwitted. So his character became his destiny. The narrator was a bit impulsive.
