b) Character of Lomov.
Ans:- In the Russian drama "The
Proposal" by Anton Chekhov, Lomov is a 35 years old Russian Landlord. He
is one of the main characters in the drama. His character is portraited as
hypochondriac as well stubborn. He proposes Chubukov to marry his beautiful
daughter Natalya, not in love bound but in social need. Love and romance is not
so important to him. To impress Natalya, he proudly declares his possession on
the oxen medows. Marriage is nothing but a peaceful settlement to him. But his
over excitement spoils his social prestige. Though he become engages in quarrel
with Natalya, finally regaining his conciousness, he gladly engages himself to
the beautiful lady.
